Belgacom lowers its rate for calls to mobile numbers
On 1 August, Belgacom will lower its rate for calls from fixed lines to mobile numbers. This is a result of the lowering of the mobile termination rates (MTR), conform to the decision of the regulator (BIPT) of 29 June 2010. These rates still differ in Belgium: Mobistar and Base charge Proximus more for terminating calls on their network than the other way round. As the rates will be lowered further, this asymmetry will be eliminated, as requested by the European Commission.
From 1 October "Happy Time" customers will pay a fixed amount per call to mobile numbers. This means that they can also make mobile calls without worrying about the length of the call.
The difference between fixed-to-fixed calls and fixed-to-mobile calls is becoming ever smaller, also an advantage of convergence.
