Key events of the Belgacom Group
From the creation of the RTT in 1930 to the first bundled offers in the beginning of 2007, Belgacom has always anticipated the great changes in the telecom sector. Below is an overview of the dates which marked the company's history.

2010
The Belgacom Group is now a single entity. A new start!
2009
Belgacom innovates by launching the PingPing brand, which aims to be the icon of mobile payment systems.
2008
Belgacom acquires the company Scarlet SA, allowing it to penetrate a new market segment and reinforce its multiplay offer in Belgium.
Belgacom acquires Mobile-for, a company specialized in mobile payments for parking.
Belgacom acquires the company Tango, the second mobile operator in Luxembourg.
2007
The Belgacom Group launches its first bundled offers combining fixed/mobile telephony, ADSL and television.
2006
Belgacom acquires Telindus and strengthens its offer of IT and network integration services for the corporate and professional markets.
Belgacom acquires the 25% remaining shares in Proximus. This enables it to take another step toward convergence, and will allow the Group to offer integrated solutions in the future.
2005
Belgacom and Swisscom Fixnet sign an agreement to merge their international carrier activities. This transaction allows the new company to strengthen its position and increase its competitiveness on the international carrier market.
Belgacom acquires the Belgian football broadcasting rights for the three next seasons.
Belgacom TV is launched onto the television market. It is the first digital television offer in Belgium.
Proximus becomes the first mobile telephony operator in Belgium to offer 3G services to the general public.
2004
Belgacom makes its entry into the stock exchange on 22 March. This is the most important event in the European telecom sector since Orange became listed on the stock exchange in February 2001.
2002
Proximus becomes the first mobile operator in Belgium to offer all its customers Internet access via GPRS
1998
The telecom market is fully liberalized on 1 January 1998. Belgacom embraces the world of high-speed Internet by launching ADSL on the Belgian market. The website www.belgacom.be is also launched in this year.
1996
The year of the strategic consolidation. The Belgian Government gives Belgacom a boost by selling 50% - 1 share of Belgacom SA to the ADSB Telecommunications consortium, composed of Ameritech (SBC), Tele Danmark and Singapore Telecom, plus three Belgian financial institutions: Sofina, Dexia and KBC.
1994
Belgacom, the autonomous public-sector company, becomes a “Société Anonyme” under public law.
The Proximus cellular network is also launched. On 1 July 1994, this activity is transferred to a subsidiary, Belgacom Mobile.
1992
The RTT is dissolved and replaced by Belgacom, an autonomous public-sector company.
1930
The RTT (the national telegraph and telephone company) is founded.
