Proximus continues to deploy its ultra-fast 4G network

In parallel, Proximus is increasing 3G speeds throughout the country.

Proximus is moving ahead with the deployment of its ultra-fast 4G network in order to continue to offer its customers the best mobile network in Belgium and meets the growing demand for mobile data traffic.

Proximus is making substantial investments in its mobile network in order to extend the coverage and increase speeds.   In November 2012, Proximus became the first operator in Belgium to open up its 4G network to its customers. It was available in Liège, Namur, Mons, Wavre, Hasselt, Antwerp, Ghent, Leuven.

Mass deployment of 4G

In 2013, Proximus will continue with the deployment in the eight cities above-mentioned, and will add new cities where 4G will be deployed before July - i.e. Charleroi, Tournai, Mechelen, Bruges and the coastal cities of Ostend, La Panne, Knokke-Heist, Nieuport and Blankenberge. More cities will be added gradually. Users surfing on the go via their smartphone, tablet, or laptop will benefit from a surfing experience comparable to that of their fixed Internet connection at home or at the office.

Who can benefit from 4G in Belgium?

Today, only Proximus customers can benefit from the 4G offer in Belgium. To make ultra-fast mobile Internet accessible to all Proximus customers, the 4G- offer will be simplified as from the 2nd of April and even more advantageous rate plans, some of which will include access to the 4G network will be launched. For the mobile plans with data volume excluding 4G, Proximus will launch a new "4G option" giving customers access to the 4G network and 1 GB of mobile Internet for €10/month.

4G smartphone for €1

In April, Proximus will offer a 4G smartphone for just €1: customers who take a mobile subscription including 4G can buy the Sony Xperia Z for just €1 (instead of €649). Other 4G smartphones are also available, such as the Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G, the BlackBerry Z10, the Nokia Lumia 820, and the Nokia Lumia 920. Other 4G devices, such as USB sticks and 4G modems, are also available in the Belgacom shops.

Optimization of the 3G infrastructure

In parallel with the 4G deployment, Proximus will continue to improve the existing 3G infrastructure (coverage of more than 97%) by allowing maximum speeds up to three times faster than before.
