The Competition Council approves the acquisition by Belgacom of the Phone House Belgium
23-12-2011
On 15 April 2011, Belgacom announced the acquisition of Wireless Technology owning a chain of The Phone House stores in Belgium, subject to approval by the competition authorities. The Belgian Competition Council formally approved the acquisition on 23 December 2011 allowing the transaction to be closed early January 2012.
Belgacom confirms that following discussions with the Competition Council, a positive and fair conclusion was reached, leading to the approval of the transaction and the subsequent divestment of a number of TPH points-of-sale after closing.
The Phone House Belgium will continue to operate as an independent multi-operators chain of stores. Keeping the same trade name, it will therefore continue to offer a wide range of Smartphones, mobile phones, laptops and accessories as well as voice and Internet products and services. Personnel of the Phone House Belgium will enjoy the same employment conditions while customers will continue to benefit from the current products and services.
The acquisition of The Phone House Belgium points-of-sale (for an amount of EUR 22 million) will enable Belgacom to increase its proximity to its customers and offer them more tailored, personalized services. This acquisition also makes it possible to better meet the expectations of a constantly changing telecom market and the demand for ever more innovative products and services such as Smartphones, Mobile Internet and convergent packs.
