Supporting our communities
We want to help improve the quality of life of our communities. We focus on aspects directly related to our CSR responsibilities: expanding access to telecom for the disadvantaged; creating, restoring and improving the social bonds between communities and individuals; and promoting the involvement of our employees in their local communities.
Key priorities
Financial resources, time and equipment to 118 charity organizations, thanks to the Belgacom Foundation
We have set up the Belgacom Foundation, whose mission is to create, restore and strengthen social links between people and communities. Our first external call rewarded 36 community projects aimed at stimulating intergenerational dialog. Furthermore, we distributed 563 computers to schools and non-profit organizations in cooperation with our partner Close the Gap. Finally, the Helping Hand has supported 49 non-profit projects in which our employees work as volunteers.
In 2011, our total support to the non-profit sector and to schools (in cash, time and equipment) was 2.98 million euro

Anne-Sophie Parent, Secretary General AGE Platform:

Responsible sponsoring
As in 2009 and 2010, during the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme, we again organized a sprint trial with our partner, the Belgian Paralympic Committee (BPC), with the world's athletes with below knee amputation. What's more, this year, the BPC via its leagues (Vlaamse Liga Gehandicaptensport and Ligue Handisport Francophone) held a sprint trial for promising young wheelchair athletes during the Belgacom Youth Memorial Van Damme. We were able to invite 30 young disadvantaged youths from the North District to assist at the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme.
Belgacom Dreambox, an initiative aimed at supporting young people who are members of tennis, football and basketball clubs, has almost 700 registered teams. Dreambox sponsors their shirts and allows them to develop a website for free. This concept was extended to the G-football championship for young people suffering from a slight mental or physical handicap.
Customer engagement via the loyalty program
Since March 2011, our commercial divisions (CBU and EBU) allow our customers to exchange the points acquired via our loyalty plans for, among others, the HappyPacks of our partner UNICEF. HappyPacks are gifts that save lives in countries where UNICEF is active. http://www.happypack.be/fr/home/productcategory/list
Thanks to this campaign, our customers were able to offer HappyPacks worth more than €30,000 in 2011.
