Developing a responsible supply chain
Our aim is to strengthen social and environmental standards throughout our supply chain, together with our direct suppliers, by improving their CSR performance and their own supply chain management, while increasing our own efficiency. By integrating our CSR standards in our procurement procedures, we can maintain our good reputation and really make a difference for the communities in which our suppliers are active.
Key priorities
- Raise CSR standards of our suppliers
- Include CSR as sourcing and selection criteria
We expect our suppliers to observe certain standards in the fields of labor, ethics, safety and the environment (based on our Code of Ethical Procurement). Compliance with these standards is monitored through questionnaires and talks with the suppliers (during the so-called vendor account meetings).
Of the 11 strategic suppliers who were identified as high risk in 2010, after an in-depth analysis, 10 turned out to have a lower risk score than initially thought. An improvement plan was drawn up for the remaining high-risk supplier.
In 2011, we evaluated the CSR-related risks of 397 suppliers (with spend above €125,000). In this context, we identified nine suppliers with potential risks, which we will follow up in 2012. In 2012, besides our strategic suppliers, an additional 100 suppliers will be evaluated using our new tool.
The CSR selection and qualification process is described in more detail on the new Suppliers portal.
Last year, in the vendor performance report, we looked at sustainability as well as security of supply, quality and business commitment.
